Bote bote is Spanish for “can can”. It’s a game we used to play in the summer time. It’s similar to hide and seek but involved kicking a can. My childhood was this. Not only because of the game but because it was summer and a lot of people from other parts of Spain came to the building where I lived. My city was a tourist city for summer vacation. There were some friends I only saw during the summer so it was a very playful time and I remember it very well. We used to play at night which was amazing. Imagine being 7 or 8 years old with a big and safe playground just next door. I have very beautiful memories of this.

i pledge allegiance

We recited this every morning to the flag high up in the corner of our classroom. I’m not sure what the purpose or significance of this was but I do still remember it, along with the words to the national anthem and America. On a side note, I did make sure I learned O Canada before heading back to the motherland for uni but it didn't help much in adjusting to life there or feeling more Canadian. Back to allegiances to flags and so called republics, I hope that in everything we do, we continually strive towards liberty and justice for all.
