The Arctic Circle . June 2015 . Spitsbergen, Svalbard
The two and a half week residency with 28 other artists began and ended in Longyearbyen. Fifteen days inbetween was spent sailing around Spitsbergen aboard the barquentine tallship Antigua.
Prior to the trip, I partnered with several classrooms for an explorer project: We Go North. Explorers have been sent back to their schools and our trip log and other photographs can be found at the site above. Work continues on art that began in the Arctic.
This set of watercolours I did in support of Students on Ice, an organization that sends high school students on educational expeditions to the Arctic or Antarctica. They're based on my sketchbook and photographs from the residency. The watercolours were made into calendars to raise funds for the SOI scholarship.
